Host Our Backyard Hives
Turn your backyard into a working apiary!
We’ll assess your property, install 2–6 honeybee hives in a suitable location, and manage every aspect of the colony from season to season. That means routine inspections, health monitoring, honey harvest, and winter preparation. You won’t need any beekeeping experience or equipment. Your only job is to enjoy the results.
In return for hosting, you’ll receive complimentary jars of honey harvested directly from your own backyard. You’ll also notice the difference in your garden. A healthy colony of foraging honeybees is one of the most effective things you can do for fruit, vegetable, and flower production.
We serve the greater Philadelphia metropolitan area and conduct a free site visit so there’s no commitment until we’ve both determined your property is a good fit.
What’s included:
Free site assessment
All hive equipment and installation
Year-round maintenance and inspections
Honey harvest and delivery
Annual Fee $599

Learn from a Master Beekeeper
Learning beekeeping from an online video or a single workshop only gets you so far. Bees are seasonal, and real competency comes from working hives through a full year, watching colonies build in spring, managing the honey flow in summer, preparing for winter in fall, and understanding what healthy bees look like in the cold of February.
The Backyard Beekeepers apprenticeship is a hands-on, year-round program structured around the natural beekeeping calendar. You’ll work live hives alongside a Master Beekeeper, building practical skills month by month as conditions in the hive actually change.
What to know before enrolling:
No prior experience required
Sessions take place at your home apiary
Participants must provide their own jacket or bee suit, hive tool, and smoker
Program starts each year in April, weather permitting
Getting stung is part of beekeeping. if that’s not a risk you can take, this program may not be the right fit
Annual Hive Hosting Fee + $399 1 Year Apprentice Program Fee

Swarm Removal
If honeybees have appeared on your property clustered on a branch, gathered on a fence post, or beginning to settle somewhere they shouldn’t, call us before you call an exterminator.
A swarm is a colony of honeybees in transit looking for a new home. They are typically docile and non-aggressive in this state, but they need to be relocated promptly before they establish themselves inside a wall, eave, or structure where removal becomes far more complicated and costly.
We respond quickly, safely remove the swarm, and relocate the colony to a proper home where they can thrive. It’s better for you, better for your property, and better for the bees.
If you see a swarm: keep people and pets at a safe distance and call us right away at (484) 243-0333. Do not spray them with water or pesticides, this agitates the colony and complicates removal.
Free of charge in most cases of open honeybee swarms
Additional charges may be applied for travel, if the bees are inside of a structure, or if it is not honey bees.
Fill out the form below after you call us so we have all the information that we’ll need.

The workshop opens with an engaging presentation on honeybee biology, colony life, and the art of beekeeping, covering everything from how a hive is structured to how honey is made. No prior knowledge required; this is designed to be accessible and fascinating for all ages and backgrounds.
From there, attendees roll up their sleeves for a live honey extraction using a hand-cranked extractor brought on site. Everyone participates in spinning, straining, and bottling their own honey. The session closes with each attendee designing and applying a custom label to their very own 4oz jar of honey to take home. A one-of-a-kind keepsake made with their own hands!

Pollinator Garden Installation
Exclusively available to Backyard Beekeepers hive hosts.
Create a dedicated foraging habitat directly around the colonies, reduce foot traffic and landscaping activity near the hives, and establish a natural buffer that keeps bees and lawn maintenance safely separated. It’s one of the best things a host can do for their colony’s productivity and their own peace of mind.
We design and install native pollinator gardens curated specifically for Pennsylvania, sourced from vetted growers who use no systemic pesticides. Every plant selection is chosen for seasonal bloom succession providing continuous forage for your bees and supporting the broader native pollinator community in your yard.
A standard installation surrounds the hive stand in an oval bed extending a few feet in all directions. We handle everything: site assessment, plant selection based on your sun and soil conditions, delivery, and installation. You get an established garden that requires minimal maintenance and gets more beautiful every season as the plants mature.
What’s included:
Site assessment and plant selection
Pennsylvania-native plants sourced from responsible growers
Full installation
First-season care guidance
Consultation Fee $75
If you follow up with a full installation, the $75 is credited toward your installation cost.

Hosting Backyard Beekeepers has been the beautiful part of my garden I didn’t know I needed. Joe is amazing in his knowledge of bees, their impact on your environment and gardens and has taught me so much. It brings us so much joy to work in our gardens watching the bees work along side us. My grandson is two and already talks about “ the bees in the box” ! Very grateful to host Backyard Beekeepers.
